Fourth of July Celebration

American flags...barbeques...fireworks...celebrations...that’s right, the 4th of July is nearly here, you can smell it in the air, and have probably heard it the past few nights since the fireworks stands opened. Big Sky Community Corporation is hosting a party for our country’s 238th birthday, but this is no regular party—it’s the 6th Annual Fourth of July Celebration at Big Sky Community Park that goes on all day! What goes on during the all day celebration? A better question is what doesn’t go on. The 350 people that attended last year figured out there’s a great time to be had whether you’re participating in an event or just relaxing and watching the fun. Every aspect of the event is family-friendly, including the all-day family rate pricing, numerous kids’ events, and delicious American-classic barbeque lunch.

If you’re feeling guilty about how many hot dogs and beers you’re going to consume later in the day, or just feel like taking a run in the morning, join in on the 5K run starting at 8:30 am, followed by a 1K fun run for kids. After these first two events, there are friendly competitions all over the park. Adults and kids tennis tournaments, skate park jam, disc golf, 3 on 3 basketball, kids’ activities, and an obstacle course are all on the agenda, in addition to the new events added this year: a kickball game on the softball fields and something a little more unique. Did you ever think you’d hear ‘bathtub’ and ‘race’ in the same sentence? The bathtub races begin at 3:00 pm, and entail teams of three pushing a tub full of water and a person around a track while spectators shower participants in water balloons. Be ready to get soaked if you participate in that event! Kids also have the opportunity to learn how to fly fish at Historic Crail Ranch, which is quite the opportunity considering the waters around Big Sky are home to some of the most prime fly fishing in the country.

The Fourth of July should be nothing short of one of the most memorable holidays of the year and a highlight of the summer. Come take advantage of the celebration Big Sky Community Corporation is hosting and make this Friday one to remember.
