Surrounded by national forest lands, Big Sky country offers some of the finest opportunities for big game hunting, with antelope, elk, and deer, among other animals.

Area outfitters know the lay of the land and where the animals tend to travel. JAKE’S HORSES and others offer multi-day hunts on horseback or by foot.

Hunting licenses are required by law and are available through MONTANA FISH, WILDLIFE & PARKS. Archery season is open from September – October and rifle open October – November for elk, deer (whitetail or mule), and antelope. For special game hunts, including moose, bighorn sheep, bison and wolf, you can go through a licensed outfitter or apply for a draw through the state.
