The Big Sky Chamber of Commerce proudly welcomed 10 Montana state legislators this week for a special "familiarization tour" designed to showcase the unique economic and infrastructure challenges of Big Sky. The legislators, hailing from Kalispell to Billings, participated in a series of presentations and discussions focused on the community's economic impact and infrastructure needs.

The tour highlighted Big Sky’s contributions to both the regional and state economy, starting with an economic impact analysis, followed by an in-depth update on local infrastructure requirements.  The visit provided a unique opportunity for lawmakers to connect with community leaders, educators, first responders, and local businesses, all of whom contribute to the vitality of this region. Through immersive experiences and conversations, the tour fostered a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Big Sky, from infrastructure needs to the impact of tourism on local services

“Our focus this week was to show Montana legislators what Big Sky does from an economic development standpoint for not just our community, but for the region and the state,” said Brad Niva, CEO of the Big Sky Chamber. “This visit was basically a show & tell of Big Sky’s economic impact on the state and how we often have to be creative as an unincorporated community of 3,500 people in solving some of our infrastructure deficiencies.” - Brad Niva, CEO, Big Sky Chamber of Commerce

The legislators’ visit was organized through a partnership between the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce, the Big Sky Resort Area District, the Big Sky Housing Trust, and the Big Sky Canyon and Water District.  We are grateful for the legislators' time and engagement in learning what makes our community thrive and hope to continue working with them in the future.
