Run For A Seat on One of Big Sky Special District Boards
Filing Deadline is Monday, February 5, 2020
Big Sky is unique – a “Census Designated Place” lacking a formalize municipal government, we are home to 7 Special Purpose Districts, over 80 Home Owners Associations and countless nonprofit community organizations that all contribute to Big Sky’s complex but functional operating framework.
Four of the Seven Special Districts are holding elections for their Board of Directors in this May 5, 2020 election. Participation on these boards is invaluable to the direction and growth of the Big Sky community as a whole. Engage by seeking election for one of the following board seats
- Big Sky Fire Department Dedicated to the preservation of life and property by striving to do their best in fire suppression, rescue services and emergency medical response. They accomplish this by promoting fire safety and by highly training their firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
- 1 Seat | 3 Year Term

- Big Sky Resort Area District (BSRAD) is a special purpose unit of government that levies a 3% sales tax collected on establishments that sell luxury goods and services within the BSRAD. Resort Tax collections are at $8M for 2019, up XX% since 2010. These monies are dedicated to supporting critical community infrastructure, tourism development, and services related to public health, safety and welfare.

- Big Sky County Water & Sewer District #363 Is a special purpose unit of government organized to regulate and operate the water and sewer systems in Big Sky, Montana within their boundaries.

Requirements for Running:
- You must be a resident of the special district’s boundaries that you are running for
- You may be eligible for Big Sky Fire Department or Big Sky County Water & Sewer if you own property within the district
- Filing with Gallatin County is open with the deadline of Monday, February 10, 2020 at 5:00pm
