In Big Sky, we have a saying: if you don’t like the weather, just wait ten minutes. While our high-alpine home is famous for bluebird skies, Mother Nature likes to keep us on our toes with the occasional passing cell or seasonal flurry. Whether you’re dodging a June rain shower or a mid-winter whiteout, a change in forecast doesn't mean a change in plans—it’s just an invitation to discover the best of Big Sky beyond the trailheads.

When the forecast is looking 'nasty,' here are some of the best ways to still enjoy Big Sky and keep the adventure going.

Get Active (Indoors)

Just because the trails are muddy doesn't mean you can't get your heart rate up.

  • BASE (Big Sky Community Center): This is the ultimate "rainy day" hub. You can drop in for a gym session, but the real highlight is the indoor climbing wall, which offers a great way for families to burn off energy. They also have a great indoor multi-purpose gym if you’re looking to pick up a game of pickleball or basketball.

  • Yoga & Pilates: Several local studios offer everything from heated flows to restorative sessions. It’s the perfect way to stretch out those "ski legs" while waiting for the clouds to part.

Indulge & Recharge

If the weather is nasty, it’s a sign from Mother Nature to slow down.

Entertainment & Games

Sometimes you just want to sit back and be entertained.

  • Catch a Flick at The Waypoint: Located in the Town Center, this is more than just a movie theater. It’s a community gathering spot where you can grab a great meal and a drink while watching the latest release or a classic ski film.

  • Bowling at the Montage: For a high-end take on a classic rainy-day activity, head to Beartooth Pub & Rec. Located inside the Montage, this spot offers a sophisticated take on bowling with top-tier lanes and a cozy, pub-style atmosphere. It’s the ideal place to settle in, knock down some pins, and share a couple of their delicious pizzas while the clouds pass."

  • Retail Therapy: The Town Center and the Meadow Village are packed with local boutiques, gear shops, and art galleries. You can easily spend a few hours browsing Montana-made jewelry, high-end outdoor apparel, or local photography.

Don’t let a gray sky ruin your trip. Whether you're scaling the wall at BASE or settling in for a movie at The Waypoint, Big Sky is just as vibrant indoors as it is on the trails.
