Founded in 1872 as the world's first National Park, Yellowstone is full of wildlife, colorful hot pots, waterfalls, geysers and geologic wonders. Many choose Big Sky as their base camp for Yellowstone National Park tours and activities as we are located ~one hour from the west entrance.

Can you visit Yellowstone in the winter?
Yes, visitors can still go to Yellowstone in the winter, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Most interior roads in the Park are closed to regular vehicle traffic. Visitors can only experience the magic of Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone during the winter by guided Snowcoach or snowmobile tours.
- In the winter, visitors can drive their personal vehicles through the North entrance near Gardiner, Montana, to Mammoth Hot Springs and then on to Cooke City.
- Guided snowshoeing or cross-country skiing tours are another way to explore Yellowstone in the winter. These tours are often led by knowledgeable naturalists who share a deep understanding of Yellowstone's ecosystem and geology.

How much does it cost to go into the Park?
A standard pass into the Park costs between $20 - $35, depending on vehicle/access type. To see current pass and fee prices visit the Yellowstone National Park Website.
Are Yellowstone National Park roads open year-round?
Only a few roads are open year-round into Yellowstone National Park. Most roads are closed during the winter months and are only available to guided oversnow tours. How far is Yellowstone National Park from Big Sky?
Although the boundary of Yellowstone is only 15 miles from Big Sky, MT, the official West Entrance of the park is in West Yellowstone, MT, approximately 50 miles south.
Is there cell service in the Park?
Cell service is limited. Be prepared to be without coverage. We recommend downloading any maps and directions in advance.
