ABOUT
BIG SKY
Big Sky, Montana is nestled in the Madison range in Southwest Montana. Our small mountain town is located 50 miles South of Bozeman, Montana and 51 miles North of West Yellowstone and the west gate to Yellowstone National Park.
Big Sky is most notable for the incredible ski and snowboarding terrain at Big Sky Resort and summer downhill mountain biking. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Our town is a playground of outdoor pursuits. Those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city-life will love our town's quiet and slow pace. But don't get us wrong. We also know how to have a good time. Big Sky hosts amazing events throughout the year from the Wildlands Music Festival to the Best in the West Skijoring Showdown.
As you explore our community, be aware that locals divide Big Sky into three areas: the mountain, the meadow and the canyon. Learn more about the specifics of each area in our interactive map below.
Lone Mountain
Discover Alpine Adventure!
The Mountain is where you'll find Big Sky Resort, Montage, Moonlight Basin, and the One & Only. Big Sky Resort is home to 5,850 skiable acres and the most technologically advanced lift network in North America with heated seats and weatherproof bubbles. In the summer, you'll enjoy plenty of hiking trails, mountain biking, ziplining, and even guided tours to the peak.
Big Sky Meadow
The Heart of our Community!
The Meadow is the heart of our community. Here you’ll find two separate walkable shopping and restaurant districts, Town Center and the Meadow Village Center. Summertime in the meadow offers golfing, concerts, and the farmers market. In the winter, you'll enjoy Nordic skiing and ice skating at the outdoor ice rink. You can also access amenities such as the Big Sky Medical Center and three different grocery stores.
The Canyon
Along the Gallatin River
The Canyon is the first area you’ll encounter on your way to Big Sky. Whether arriving from Bozeman or West Yellowstone, you’ll have to drive Highway 191 along the Gallatin River. This is your Big Sky access point for world-class fishing, white water rafting, horseback riding, and hiking trails that will take you to scenic vistas. Cell phone service is limited here, so enjoy unplugging and connecting to the glorious outdoors.
