The BOZEMAN YELLOWSTONE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BZN), is less than 45 minutes from Big Sky, and depending on the time of year, there are a number of nationwide direct flights.

Driving Directions

Big Sky is located on Hwy 191, 45 miles south of Bozeman and 45 miles north of West Yellowstone. From Bozeman, you will drive through the beautiful Gallatin Canyon where bighorn sheep tend to lick the salt off the road during the winter months. From West Yellowstone, you will spend half the time driving through YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, so keep your eyes open for moose, bears, and elk as many frequent Gallatin County.

FROM BOZEMAN

  1. Head west on Main Street, which eventually turns into Huffine Lane, for 8 miles.
  2. At the four-way stop (called Four Corners), turn left (south) onto Hwy 191 and drive through the Gallatin Canyon for 34 miles.
  3. Take a right (west) at the stop light and drive 2 miles to the Meadow Village Center, 3 miles to Town Center, or 9 miles to Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

FROM THE BOZEMAN YELLOWSTONE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

  1. Exit airport, and turn right onto Frontage Road for 1.4 miles.
  2. Turn left onto Jackrabbit Lane, drive 7.5 miles.
  3. At the four-way stop (called Four Corners) Jackrabbit turns into Hwy 191. Drive straight through the Gallatin Canyon for 34 miles
  4. Take a right (west) at the stop light and drive 2 miles to the Meadow Village Center, 3 miles to Town Center, or 9 miles to Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

FROM 1-90 EASTBOUND

  1. Take Exit 298/Belgrade.
  2. Turn left (east) on Amsterdam Rd.
  3. Turn right (south) onto Jackrabbit Lane, drive 7.5 miles.
  4. At the four-way stop (called Four Corners) Jackrabbit turns into Hwy 191. Drive straight through the Gallatin Canyon for 34 miles
  5. Take a right (west) at the stop light and drive 2 miles to the Meadow Village Center, 3 miles to Town Center, or 9 miles to Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

FROM 1-90 WESTBOUND

  1. Take Exit 298/Belgrade.
  2. Turn left (south) onto Jackrabbit Lane, drive 7.5 miles.
  3. At the four-way stop (called Four Corners) Jackrabbit turns into Hwy 191. Go straight through the light and drive 34 miles up the Gallatin Canyon.
  4. There’s a stop light at the entrance to Big Sky. Take a right and head up 2 miles to the Meadow Village Center, 3 miles to Town Center, or 9 miles to Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

FROM WEST YELLOWSTONE

  1. Head north out of West Yellowstone on Canyon St./Hwy 191, drive 47 miles.
  2. Take a left (west) at the stop light and drive 2 miles to the Meadow Village Center, 3 miles to Town Center, or 9 miles to Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

The lay of the land

As you drive into Big Sky on Highway 191, these signs welcome you to the north and south. Looking for a hotel, restaurant, guest ranch, or another business in the Gallatin Canyon? Follow the BLUE squares.

Heading west, towards Lone Mountain on Highway 64, you will enter Big Sky’s Meadow Village, marked by the GREEN circles. This area is comprised of the Meadow Village Center, the Town Center, and Westfork commercial areas, also with a number of accommodations, restaurants, and shops. This is where many work, live, and play, with the Big Sky Community Park and Center Stage as highlights.

Drive another seven miles up Highway 64, and you will enter Big Sky’s Mountain Village, home to Big Sky Resort, Moonlight Basin, and a number of other businesses, marked by the BLACK diamonds.

Local Transportation

Here are some other ways to get around town: The SKYLINE BUS runs 7 days a week in the summer and winter seasons. The Canyon-Mountain loop includes a variety of stops throughout Big Sky, from the Gallatin Canyon hotels and restaurants to the Mountain Village and Moonlight Basin and all that’s in between. There is no cost to ride the Skyline Bus. View the ROUTES & SCHEDULES. Hop on Skyline’s LINK EXPRESS for easy and reliable transportation from Bozeman to Big Sky and back again. Pick-ups are at various locations around the Bozeman and Big Sky areas.

SHUTTLE TO BIG SKY, MOUNTAIN AND CANYON CAB CO.CLASSIC LIMO, BIG SKY BOUND SHUTTLE AND TRANSPORTATION, and BIG SKY SHUTTLE, INC are great options for private transportation around Big Sky.

Rental Cars

With airport shuttles, transportation to Yellowstone, and a year-round bus system, there are plenty of ways to get around the Big Sky area and beyond, but for the most flexibility during your trip, rental cars are recommended.
