RIDE THE RIVER
The Gallatin River, with its source nestled in nearby Yellowstone National Park, is a rafter's paradise right here in Big Sky. When you choose a whitewater rafting trip on the Gallatin, you're not just signing up for a ride; you're heading out on a true Montana adventure. The water levels will be at their highest during spring runoff, gradually mellowing as summer progresses. Montana Whitewater is our amazing, locally owned and operated outfitter in Big Sky. And they'll pair you with expert guides who know these waters like the back of their hand. These guides are not just skilled paddlers; they're storytellers, naturalists, and your trusty navigators, making sure you have a safe and fun trip.
As you paddle downstream, you'll be treated to incredible scenery. Keep an eye out for wildlife like bald eagles flying overhead, or deer and moose grazing along the riverbanks. The Gallatin Canyon itself is a marvel, with its towering rock formations and lush forests providing a dramatic backdrop to your adventure.
Many trips include a run through the famous "Mad Mile," a thrilling stretch of Class III and IV rapids that's sure to get your adrenaline pumping. But it's not all high-speed action; you'll also find peaceful stretches where you can soak in the serene beauty, listen to the sounds of nature, and truly appreciate being in such a special place. Montana Whitewater offers a variety of trips, from half-day to full-day options with mellow to wild action, allowing you to pick the perfect level for your group.
