Tee Off with a View for National Golf Month

Did you know that August is National Golf Month? There's no better place to celebrate than in Big Sky, where the game gets a whole new perspective. Our award-winning, public 18-hole golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer. At 6,500 feet above sea level, your drives go further, and the views of Lone Mountain are simply breathtaking. The course winds along the wildlife-rich banks of the West Fork of the Gallatin River, so you might even see a deer or moose on the green.

Feel the Rhythm at Music in the Mountains

Celebrate a warm summer evening with music to boot! Our free Music in the Mountains concert series happens every Thursday at Len Hill Park, where locals and visitors come together to enjoy incredible bands with Lone Mountain as the backdrop. Since August is the last month for these favored concerts, now is the time to soak it all in. Bring a blanket, grab a bite from a local vendor, and let the music be the soundtrack to your perfect Big Sky night.

Adventures on the Water

August is prime time for getting out on our legendary rivers and lakes. While water levels on the Gallatin are lower this month, there are still plenty of opportunities to get out and play in smaller boats, offering a fun and unique way to navigate the river. Or, for a more peaceful day, rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard on Lake Levinsky and soak in the breathtaking views of the mountains.

Climb Higher on Our Trails

The hiking in Big Sky in August is unmatched. Take on the iconic Beehive Basin trail for a truly aspirational hike that ends at a stunning alpine lake, or opt for the family-friendly and beautiful Ousel Falls trail to discover a waterfall just a short walk from town.  We suggest starting early to avoid the heat of the day and carrying plenty of water for your journey.

Discover a Local Treasure at the Big Sky Farmers Market

Every Wednesday, our town center transforms into a vibrant hub of community connection. The Big Sky Farmers Market is a must-visit, offering a chance to browse booths from local farmers and artisans, listen to live music, and find that perfect, one-of-a-kind souvenir. It’s a great way to experience our community's spirit firsthand.

Day of Play at Big Sky Resort

Big Sky isn't just a winter playground—it's a summer destination, too. Head to the resort for a day of pure fun, from adrenaline-pumping ziplining and mountain biking to a scenic chairlift ride that offers panoramic views of the Spanish Peaks. For families, Adventure Mountain has everything from rock climbing to bungee trampolines, ensuring there’s an authentic adventure for everyone.  The Resort will close for the season in September, so be sure to squeeze in a trip in August!

This August, we invite you to find your own Big Sky adventure and soak up every last drop of summer before it’s gone. We’re here to help you get outside, connect with our community, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Remember to think about traveling mindfully—pack out what you pack in, stay on marked trails, be bear aware, and help us keep our wild spaces beautiful for generations to come.
