A Winter Weekend in Big Sky

In an ideal world, every vacation would be long and lavish, but we all know that life doesn’t always work out that way.  Sometimes, a weekend is the longest we can break away.  If Big Sky is your winter weekend destination, here are a few “don’t miss” attractions that are sure to make, even the shortest stay, feel like a winter wonderland escape.

Big Sky offers three main options for downhill skiing or snowboarding.  The Biggest Skiing in America lift ticket provides access to both Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.  Together, the two adjacent ski resorts boast more than 5,500 acres of skiable, not-to-mention breathtakingly beautiful, terrain.

Another excellent option is cross-country skiing at Lone Mountain Ranch.  LMR maintains over 85 km of scenic and serene trails, ideal for both classic cross-country and skate skiing.

For those looking for a departure from skiing, Spirit of the North offers daily dog sled adventures.  These lively half-day trips are as hands-on (or off) as you choose, and are truly unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

After an exciting day of activities and perhaps a relaxing soak in the hot tub, dinner will likely be the next thing on your mind.  The aforementioned Lone Mountain Ranch hosts a charming, old-fashioned Sleigh Ride Dinner every evening.  Do make reservations in advance, these dinners are popular and tend to book up.  Big Sky is home to many fantastic eateries, including The Cabin, where you can enjoy delectable seafood, steaks, and wild game.  Choppers Grub and Pub offers the best burgers in Big Sky in a fun and friendly atmosphere.  Andiamo’s has delicious Italian cuisine.  The Lotus Pad offers delectable, authentic Thai and Asian dishes, Olive B’s is Big Sky’s newest, yummiest bistro, and Blue Moon Bakery serves hand-tossed pizzas or sandwiches made with freshly baked bread.  Be glad there are (at least) three meals in a day, that way, even with just 36 hours, you’ll be able to sample an abundance of Big Sky’s best!
