LEAVE NO TRACE
Help preserve Big Sky's pristine wilderness by practicing the seven Leave No Trace principles. These practical guidelines help minimize the impact on our environment, protect wildlife, and keep our wild spaces wild for generations.
Plan Ahead & Prepare:
Research, pack, and plan ahead for a safe and smooth adventure.
Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces:
Minimize Your footprint by choosing existing campsites. Avoid going off trail or cutting switchbacks as this can cause erosion and harm natural habitats.
Dispose of Waste Properly:
Pack it in; Pack it out: Leave no trace of your visit, including trash, food scraps, and pet waste.
Leave What You Find:
Respect cultural areas. Leave natural objects where you find them, including rocks and flowers.
Minimize Campfire Impacts:
Respect fire regulations. Use designated fire rings and properly extinguish fires before leaving camp.
Respect Wildlife:
Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not approach or feed them. Carry bear spray and be bear aware.
Be Considerate of Others:
Share the trail and respect the experience of others.
