3-Day Family Summer Weekend

Escaping for a summer weekend to Big Sky, MT with the family? We’ve got you covered on what to see and do to create the most unforgettable family trip that everyone will enjoy!

Welcome to Big Sky! Check-in to your weekend accommodations and get the lay of the land. If needed, stock up on supplies from one of our local grocers.

Grab an easy dinner in Big Sky’s town center. From mouth-watering burgers at Blindside Burger to hot slices of pizza at Pinky G’s, you’ll find a spot to feed your hungry crew. Afterwards, plan for time at the playground in the plaza in front of the Wilson Hotel and a sweet treat at our local ice cream shop, Big Sky Scoops, before heading back to your accommodations for the night.

Start your day at Caliber Coffee or Cowboy Coffee Co., grabbing breakfast sandwiches to take with you on-the-go.

Choose a morning adventure. Options include half-day fly fishing, horseback riding, a UTV ride, or whitewater rafting. Be sure to book these activities in advance. If you’re family is up for more of a challenge or looking for a low cost option, consider tackling the Beehive Basin Trail in the morning to beat the heat and the bugs.  Keep in mind that this out and back trail is over six miles round trip. Bring plenty of water, extra layers, and bear spray.

There are several recommendations for a midday bite. Grabbing sandwiches from the Hungry Moose or Blue Moon Bakery makes lunch quick and easy in the meadow area. While on the mountain, a tasty hot dog from Yeti Dogs is a family favorite.

Fill your afternoon with a variety of activities at Big Sky Resort. Smaller kids will enjoy the bungee trampoline, giant swing, and rock climbing wall. While older kids, can seek out the thrill of ziplining, downhill mountain biking, and soaring to the top of Lone Mountain on the Lone Peak Expedition.  You'll also want to check out the Lake Levinsky Marina where families can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards.

After a full-day of adventure, unwind with a cocktail and a hearty meal. Tacos at Albertos Mexican Cuisine or Tres Toros are always crowd-pleasing choices.

As this will be your departure day, give yourself a nice leisurely morning with coffee and breakfast. If time allows, tackle the short trail to Ousel Falls. This is a 1.6 mile out and back trail.  It is easy going and perfect for families of all ages. Be sure to have a full charge on your phone for scenic family photos at the waterfall.

If you still have time after your short morning hike, check out the shops and boutiques in Big Sky to grab some last-minute gifts, or consider grabbing lunch before you hit the road to your next destination.  Cafe 191's location and big plates make it a great pit stop before leaving town.

You can custom fit this weekend itinerary to meet your family's style and needs, but no matter the adventures you decide to tackle in Big Sky, you are sure to leave with memories and smiles.
